What is the Renewable Energy Obligation?

All energy suppliers in Northern Ireland must comply with a Renewable Energy Obligation, which came into effect in 2005/06. This places an obligation on all suppliers to show evidence of the purchase of renewable electricity through a system of Renewable Energy Certificates.
